A Safe & Secure Center
- All doors to the Early Learning Center and classrooms are locked for safety.
- Digital ID Access Security System: Parents are issued a photo ID swipe badge which permits them access to the Center. All others must utilize a special phone and be personally admitted into the center after being identified by a staff member. The Center entrance, outdoor playground and eating areas are equipped with camera surveillance.
Hygiene and Cleanliness
- All staff receive special proper hand washing techniques.
- All children thoroughly wash their hands before and after meals, using the bathroom, after playing and after intergenerational programs.
- Pre-schoolers brush their teeth after lunch daily.
- Gloves are worn by all staff involved in food preparation or when assisting the children with hygiene.
Fire Safety
- The Center has a fully integrated Sprinkler System and fire extinguishers in each classroom.
- All staff participate in mandatory fire safety training annually.
- All children participate in monthly fire drills and evacuate the facility completely during any nursing facility fire drill or fire emergency.
Emergency Preparedness
- The Early Learning Center at FIELDHOME has a fully-approved Disaster Plan in cooperation with Westchester County, including a plan specific to Indian Point Nuclear Plant.
- All staff are mandated to received 30 hours of safety training every two years on a wide variety of topics such as recognizing and reporting child abuse.
Health
- All staff are mandated to be trained in CPR and First Aid.
- The Early Learning Center is located within the confines of a health care facility and as such, has immediate access to trained health care professionals.
- First Aid kits are maintained in each classroom and in the Director’s Office. Emergency kit fanny packs are also readily available for staff to take for fire drills and any emergency evacuations. Included in the First Aid fanny packs are the children’s emergency contact numbers in the event we are unable to re-enter the building.
- With parental permission, all children are protected by sun block prior to going outdoors.
